The Funimation Roku channel uses an adaptive bitrate player, which means that it adjusts the quality of the video and briefly buffers during the first 4-5 minutes of playback as it finds your internet connection download speed. If you’re experiencing brief buffering during the first 4-5 minutes, this is normal.
If you’re experiencing long buffering wait times during this period, or throughout the playback of a video, then you'll need to perform a speed test on your Roku. The minimum required speed to stream video without buffering on the Funimation Roku channel is 2 Mbps for SD and 5 Mbps for 720p and 1080p. Even if other streaming channels are not buffering for you, those channels may have different minimum connection speed requirements. Therefore, it’s still necessary for you to perform an internet connection speed test.
To perform a speed test, you'll need to launch the SpeedTest channel. This is a private Roku channel that you can use to test your Roku's connection speed. You can add the channel to your Roku here: http://www.rokuguide.com/private-channels/speed-test. After you have installed the channel, perform a system update on your Roku to make the channel display in your list of channels.
Next, run the speed test on your Roku. If your Roku's connection speed is lower than the required speed, and it should be higher, then there may be an issue with the Roku, with your router, or with your internet service provider. If your Roku's connection speed is greater than the minimum required speed and you are still experiencing buffering on the Funimation Roku channel, please submit a ticket on the Customer Support page. In your ticket, send us your Roku speed test results and at least one video that buffered for you so we can continue to troubleshoot with you. Sometimes, buffering is caused by encoding or other issues and has nothing to do with your internet connection speed.
